Starting 15 November 2026, Nordea will implement updated postal address requirements for SEPA (credit transfers and direct debits), cross-border and SEK payments. These changes align with SWIFT Standards Release 2026 (MT to MX) and the EPC/NPC scheme rulebooks.
Key change: Unstructured postal addresses will no longer be accepted. Payments must instead be sent using structured or hybrid address formats in line with ISO 20022.
Changes in Corporate Netbank and Nordea Corporate
- Address field format: Wherever a postal address is entered for payments, the single address field will be replaced by multiple structured fields (Country, Town name, Postal code, Street name, Building number, Post box, etc.). This applies to beneficiary and beneficiary’s bank addresses, and where applicable, ultimate debtor/ultimate creditor addresses. The changes are expected to occur in October/November 2026.
- New data field: Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) will be introduced as an optional field for some payment types alongside these changes.
Preparing your payments for the new requirements
From 15 November 2026, payments sent via SWIFT with unstructured address information will be rejected.
Action steps:
- Avoid entering payments with a due date of 15 November 2026 or later until the structured address fields are available in Corporate Netbank and Nordea Corporate, to prevent payments from being rejected.
- Once the structured address fields are available, update the address information in recurring payments and any payments with due dates of 15 November 2026 or later to use the structured fields. Any previously confirmed payments that have been updated will need to be reconfirmed.
- Once the structured address fields are available, update the address information in any payment templates and saved recipients (beneficiaries) to structured address fields to smoothly continue making new payments.
- Review your ERP systems to ensure that you use the relevant ISO 20022 version and hybrid or structured address formats when initiating payments via file-based integrations.
Note: ISO 20022 version 2019 (v9) will be introduced for SEPA Direct Debit flows in 2026. During the transition period, both ISO 20022 version 2009 (v3) and ISO 20022 version 2019 (v9) will be supported. From 15 November 2026, SEPA Direct Debits will be supported only in ISO 20022 version 2019 (v9), pain.008.001.08. From that date, the unstructured address format can no longer be used. We will provide more detailed information closer to the implementation dates.
